Most men who buy incontinence pants for the first time guess the size from their trouser label. That single habit causes more leaks than any product fault we see. Trouser sizing and continence sizing are not the same measurement, and a pant that looks right on the packet can gap at the leg the moment it is worn.
The good news is that getting it right is a five-minute job with a tape measure. This guide covers how men's incontinence pants are sized in Australia, when a pull-up suits better than a slip, and how to match the product to the way you actually live. It sits inside our wider guide to choosing the right product, so if you want the full picture across every product type, start at that CF2 pillar and come back here for the men's detail.
Size by waist, not by your trouser label
Men's incontinence pants are sized by one number: your waist measurement in centimetres. Measure around the widest point between your waist and your hips, over light clothing or on bare skin, with the tape snug and flat. Do not pull it tight. Match the centimetre figure to the size chart, and if you land between two sizes, try the smaller one first.
That last point surprises people. The instinct is to size up, on the assumption that bigger means more absorbent. It does not. A pant that is too loose around the legs gaps and leaks, and the wearer usually blames the product rather than the fit. Comfort First pull-up pants run M (60 to 120cm), L (65 to 140cm), XL (70 to 160cm) and XXL (85 to 180cm), so most men sit comfortably inside the range once they have measured properly. If you want the step-by-step version with photos, our guide on how to measure for the right size walks through it.
Pull-ups or slips: match the product to your mobility
There are two main shapes of incontinence pant for men, and the right one depends less on how heavy the leakage is and more on how you manage going to the toilet.
Pull-up pants go on and off like ordinary underwear. They suit men who are mobile, who can get to the toilet, and who want something discreet under regular clothing. For most men managing light to moderate incontinence at home or at work, this is the product they reach for once they have had their incontinence assessed.
The right product depends on what is causing the leakage, and in men that can be prostate-related, post-surgery, or something else worth looking into. If you have not had your incontinence assessed, start with your GP or the National Continence Helpline on 1800 33 00 66 before settling on a product.
Slips, sometimes called wraparounds, fasten at the sides with tabs. They suit men with limited mobility, or anyone who needs help from a carer with changes, because they can be applied and removed without the person standing or stepping in and out. Slips also carry higher absorbency: the Comfort First range runs up to 5,210mL at the top size, against 2,700mL for the largest pull-up. If you are weighing the two up, we compare pull-ups against slips in detail.
Fit details that matter for men
A common fit problem we see with men is at the leg cuffs. A snug, flat cuff that follows the crease of the leg holds the product in place during walking and sitting. A loose cuff is a common cause of leakage, and in our experience it usually comes down to sizing rather than the product.
The waistband should sit firmly without digging in. If you find red marks after a few hours, the size is too small. If the pant shifts or sags as you move, it is too large. Getting the waist measurement right fixes both. Worth noting: many men have been in the same size for years while their body has changed underneath them, so it is worth re-measuring even if you have bought continence products before.
Will it show under my clothes
This is the quiet worry behind most first orders, and it is a fair one. A pull-up that fits properly sits close to the body and disappears under everyday trousers and work clothing. The bulk men notice is usually a sign the size is wrong, often too large, so the product bunches instead of lying flat. A correctly measured pant is far more discreet than people expect, which is the main reason the daytime pull-up suits men who are out and about. When you need more absorbency without more bulk
A frequent question from men is how to get through a longer stretch, an overnight period or a long drive, without stepping up to a bulkier product. The answer most people have never been told is a booster pad inside the pant.
A booster sits inside a pull-up and adds capacity without changing the outer fit. It is one of the least understood products in the range, and it lets a man stay in a discreet daytime pant for longer rather than moving to a heavier slip he does not otherwise need. For lighter overnight needs it may be enough on its own. Heavier overnight leakage may still need a slip, so it is worth testing what works for you.
Looking after skin
Skin care is part of fit, not separate from it. A product that manages volume properly helps keep urine off the skin and the skin drier, which supports skin integrity over time. Changing at sensible intervals and cleaning gently between changes makes a real difference, especially for men who are changed more than once a day.
Harsh wipes work against you here. Comfort First body wipes are unscented, bamboo, hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested, which suits skin that is being cleaned often. Many men notice their skin is more comfortable over time once the cleaning routine is gentler.
